THE ANTIFA KUGELBOOK

Whether you’re stuck at home or stuck in a mindset, a crisis is a good time to change the world.  Before the pandemic, before lockdowns and the cancellation of all public events, we imagined a cookbook of beloved recipes, inspired by The Anarchist Cookbook. We had been stewing on the idea ever since a backyard show we played in the summer of 2019, The Kugel Kafe. Stef’s sister Candace had cooked up a storm, and several people suggested we distribute recipes afterwards.

Recipe seemed like an idea ripe for metaphor. We could share recipes for kugel and other foods, yes, as well as instructions and stories about cooking up other types of mayhem, music, and community. We floated the idea to our mailing list, and y’all responded with this menagerie of delicious and rambling tales.

We see this as a collection of little letters. The sharing and passing down of recipes is a form of cultural preservation, continued acts of resistance to assimilation and cultural erasure by dominant culture/white supremacy. May we find some sweetness as we collectively cook up revolution, and savor the results.

THANK YOU

This project exists because of all of us, including especially YOU!  You RSVP'd to a secret backyard kugel kafe, you wanted to know and compare recipes, you wanted to be a part of the conversation about food and music and art and revolution and creating the world we want to live in.  Thank you to each of the contributors to this zine, for sharing your time and your wisdom and your art.  Thank you to all of the readers and eaters and dancers and creators.  We love being in community with each and every one of you.
